Kennard Davis Jr., a starting forward for No. 7 BYU, was arrested for suspicion of DUI after a car accident on Thursday in Provo, Utah.

Provo police said Davis was treated for minor injuries and his vehicle was impounded. A spokesperson told ESPN on Friday that the other party involved in the accident did not sustain any injuries.

“We are aware of the allegations and looking into the situation,” BYU said in a statement.

The arrest comes as the Cougars (3-0) prepare to face No. 3 UConn (3-0) on Saturday in Boston. A spokesperson for the school would not confirm to ESPN whether Davis traveled with the team.

A 6-foot-6 transfer from Southern Illinois, Davis has averaged 9.0 points and 27.0 minutes in two starts this season with BYU. He sat out Tuesday’s 85-68 win against Delaware with a leg injury.

Student-athletes who run afoul of the law at BYU can suffer major consequences, as the school’s honor code requires all students to make “a personal commitment to abstain, both on and off campus, from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, vaping, and substance abuse.” Violations can lead to dismissal from the university, the flagship school of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Davis averaged 10.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in 64 games (41 starts) while at Southern Illinois, earning all-conference honors last season.
