Reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have some things to clean up after a blowout loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 10. They are heading into a tough stretch of games that begins at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are coming off a tough loss to the New England Patriots and are looking to make some fixes of their own.

Allen’s performance has come under scrutiny after the loss to Miami. While his numbers look to be on par with his career stats, there is one area where he is falling short.

Analyst Dan Orlovsky recently urged Allen to make a key passing adjustment.

“Throw the ball away. Let your [completion percentage] take the hit. You don’t have the receivers to play behind schedule,” Orlovsky wrote on X.

Josh Allen sacks

2024
14 sacks on 537 dropbacks (2.6%)
24 throwaways

2025
20 sacks on 308 dropbacks (6.5%)
6 throwaways

Throw the ball away.
Let your Comp pct take the hit. You don’t have the receivers to play behind schedule.@PaulHembo

— Dan Orlovsky (@danorlovsky7) November 13, 2025

Orlovsky pointed out that Allen has taken 20 sacks this season after being sacked just 14 times last season. The former NFL QB attributes this to a reluctance to throw the ball away, which is something Allen has done just six times in 308 dropbacks.

Orlovsky is right to point out that Allen doesn’t have the receivers to play this way. So when Allen fights to extend plays and wait for someone to get open downfield, it just isn’t happening because they aren’t finding gaps in the defense like they used to.

Keeping Allen healthy is by far the top priority for the Bills, and he takes enough hits as it is because he runs so often. The avoidable sacks have to be eiminated.
