Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is producing one of the most efficient seasons of his career through the first nine games of 2025. He leads the NFL with a 74 percent completion rate while accumulating 2,235 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and just three interceptions.

His performance has generated a career-high 117.7 passer rating alongside a 1.1 percent interception rate that marks the lowest figure of his professional tenure. Former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy recently offered strong praise for Goff during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. McCarthy believes the veteran quarterback deserves more recognition for his sustained excellence this season.

“I think this guy’s been playing it at an incredible level, and I think last week’s game, against Washington, speaks volume. […] I think we just kind of take, I don’t know, if we’re taking them for granted. I don’t think he gets enough love, and I definitely have him higher,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy’s comments suggest Goff should be ranked higher on current MVP lists, where he sits outside the top 10. The former coach believes Goff has been undervalued for the past three seasons despite consistently strong production. The numbers this year support that argument.

Goff reached several milestones during Detroit’s 44-22 victory over Washington in Week 10. His 20 touchdown passes through nine games rank second in franchise history, matching Matthew Stafford’s 2011 start and trailing only Bobby Layne’s 24 from 1954.

Stafford’s single-season record of 41 remains the benchmark, but Goff’s current pace keeps that mark within reach.

The 31-year-old also recorded his 44th career 300-yard game against Washington, placing him alongside Dan Marino and Drew Brees through their first 10 seasons. Only Patrick Mahomes and Matt Ryan have posted more 300-yard performances at this stage of their careers. With eight games remaining, Goff has opportunities to close that gap and add to his growing list of accomplishments this season.
