NHL roundup: Stars blank Canadiens for 4th straight win

Jason Robertson scored twice and Casey DeSmith made 24 saves as the visiting Dallas Stars routed the Montreal Canadiens 7-0 to extend their winning streak to a season-high four games.

Robertson added an assist for his second straight three-point game as the Stars scored more than six goals for the first time since Feb. 8.

Dallas’ Colin Blackwell notched a goal and an assist. Wyatt Johnston scored the 100th goal of his career and Esa Lindell, Tyler Seguin and Alexander Petrovic also found the back of the net. Radek Faksa had a career-high-tying three assists and Mikko Rantanen finished with a pair.

The Canadiens lost their second straight and were shut out and for the first time this season. Jakub Dobes allowed a season-high five goals and stopped only eight shots before exiting after two periods. Sam Montembeault stopped four of six shots in the third.

Senators 5, Bruins 3

Tim Stutzle’s pair of third-period goals included the eventual game-winner with 5:43 remaining, leading Ottawa past visiting Boston.

Stutzle finished with three points while Claude Giroux and Dylan Cozens each had a goal and an assist for the Senators, who withstood Boston’s two-goal rally in the final frame. Shane Pinto also scored and Leevi Merilainen stopped 18 shots for Ottawa.

David Pastrnak and Morgan Geekie each had a goal and an assist, Mark Kastelic also lit the lamp and Joonas Korpisalo made 17 saves for the Bruins, who had a seven-game win streak snapped. Pastrnak tied Rick Middleton for fifth on Boston’s all-time goals list (402).

Red Wings 6, Ducks 3

Alex DeBrincat scored two goals and added an assist as host Detroit ended a three-game slide by defeating Anaheim.

Detroit’s Moritz Seider and Dylan Larkin each supplied a goal and an assist while Michael Rasmussen and Axel Sandin-Pellikka had the other goals for the Red Wings. Former Anaheim goaltender John Gibson stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced before leaving after two periods due to an undisclosed injury. Cam Talbot got the win in relief, stopping 10 of 11 shots.

Cutter Gauthier, Chris Kreider and Mikael Granlund scored for Anaheim, but Leo Carlsson saw his 11-game point streak come to an end. Lukas Dostal made 27 saves.

Panthers 6, Capitals 3

Brad Marchand dished two assists to reach 1,000 career points, and Sam Reinhart scored two goals as host Florida defeated Washington.

Two Panthers players — Seth Jones and Evan Rodrigues — each scored their 100th career goal. Daniil Tarasov (1-3-1) made 37 saves for his first win as a member of the Panthers. The Panthers also got a goal each from Cole Schwindt and Eetu Luostarinen.

Washington’s Brandon Duhaime scored in his third consecutive game after ending a 14-game drought to start the season. Justin Sourdif and Rasmus Sandin also found the back of the net for Washington.

Blue Jackets 5, Oilers 4

Mathieu Olivier had two goals and an assist for Columbus in a win against visiting Edmonton.

Charlie Coyle scored a goal and added two assists, Denton Mateychuk and Adam Fantilli also scored and Jet Greaves made 25 saves for the Blue Jackets, who blew a two-goal lead with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation in Edmonton on Monday before losing 5-4 in overtime.

Leon Draisaitl scored two goals, Evan Bouchard had three assists and Calvin Pickard made 20 saves for the Oilers, who were coming off a 2-1 overtime win at the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday, their second straight overtime win.

Kings 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT)

Quinton Byfield scored at 0:35 of overtime and added an assist as visiting Los Angeles defeated Toronto.

Byfield scored on a one-timer from the right faceoff dot on a pass from Drew Doughty to give the Kings their third straight win. Warren Foegele, Kevin Fiala and Alex Laferriere also scored for the Kings and Darcy Kuemper stopped 12 shots.

John Tavares scored twice for the Maple Leafs, who have lost four in a row. Bobby McMann also scored and Matthew Knies added two assists. Dennis Hildeby made 33 saves, substituting for No. 1 goaltender Anthony Stolarz, who is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Avalanche 6, Sabres 3

Martin Necas had two goals and two assists, Gavin Brindley scored a tiebreaking goal late in the second period and added an assist, and Colorado beat Buffalo in Denver.

Gabriel Landeskog, Artturi Lehkonen and Brock Nelson also had goals for Colorado, which has won five straight and seven of the past eight (7-0-1). Nathan MacKinnon, the NHL’s leading scorer with 33 points, added an assist to extend his point streak to 11 games (eight goals, 15 assists). He is now tied with Peter Stastny for second on the franchise list with 1,048 points.

Tage Thompson had a goal and an assist, Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway also scored. The Sabres are winless in seven road games (0-5-2).

Islanders 4, Golden Knights 3 (OT)

Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored an unassisted short-handed goal 3:02 into overtime as New York rallied for its third straight victory, a decision over Vegas in Las Vegas.

Matthew Schaefer had a goal and an assist, Bo Horvat and Jonathan Drouin each had two assists and Emil Heineman and Mathew Barzal also scored goals for New York. Ilya Sorokin finished with 26 saves to improve to 4-0-1 in his past five starts and 4-2-1 all-time against Vegas.

Shea Theodore scored his first goal of the season and Tomas Hertl and Reilly Smith also tallied for Vegas. Schmid made 20 saves for the Golden Knights, who suffered their fourth straight loss (0-2-2), all at home.

Kraken 5, Jets 3

Jordan Eberle scored a pair of third-period goals as Seattle rallied for a victory against visiting Winnipeg.

Vince Dunn had a goal and two assists, Kaapo Kakko and Eeli Tolvanen also tallied and Matty Beniers had two assists for the Kraken, who improved to 5-1-3 at home. Goaltender Philipp Grubauer, starting for the injured Joey Daccord (upper body), made 23 saves.

Mark Scheifele had a goal and an assist and Alex Iafallo and Kyle Connor also scored for the Jets, who dropped to 1-4-0 on their six-game trip that wraps up Saturday at Calgary. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 13 of 17 shots.

Flames 2, Sharks 0

Dustin Wolf recorded his first shutout of the season, backstopping host Calgary to a shutout victory over San Jose.

Blake Coleman and Sam Honzek scored for the Flames, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Wolf made 16 saves to record his fourth career shutout.

Sharks goaltender Yaroslav Askarov delivered a sparkling 34-save performance, but it was not enough to extend his team’s four-game winning streak. San Jose had earned points in seven consecutive outings (6-0-1).
