TreVeyon Henderson has emerged as one of the most intriguing stories in the NFL this season. The New England Patriots‘ rookie running back entered Thursday night’s matchup against the New York Jets with momentum following a breakout performance that showcased his explosive ability.
Henderson rushed for 62 yards on 19 carries against the Jets, highlighted by three total touchdowns, with two coming from the ground. His acceleration in the open field has become increasingly difficult for defenders to match.
When asked by Carlos A. Lopez whether he believes opposing players can catch him once he breaks into space, Henderson offered a measured response.
“Sometimes. But, I know this league different. There’s speed all over this league, so I know it’s different,” Henderson said.

The second-round selection had operated in a limited capacity through the first half of the season. Henderson split carries with Terrell Jennings behind Rhamondre Stevenson while adjusting to the professional level.
Injuries opened the door for expanded opportunities on Sunday, and Henderson responded by becoming only the fourth player this season to reach 22 miles per hour during a run. Henderson arrived in New England with considerable expectations after playing a key role on Ohio State’s national championship team.
The Patriots selected him 38th overall in the draft, believing his combination of speed and vision could complement their offensive system. Despite that pedigree, his early usage remained modest as the coaching staff managed the backfield rotation. Through his first seven games, Henderson recorded double-digit rushing attempts only once.
That pattern has shifted over the past four weeks, with Henderson surpassing 10 carries in each contest. The increased workload reflects growing confidence from the coaching staff and could signal a larger role moving forward as New England evaluates its offensive identity.
