The Kansas City Chiefs reached the midpoint of their 2025 season with a 5-4 record that keeps them within reach of the playoff picture. When the trade deadline passed without any roster additions, it became clear that any improvement would need to come from within the organization.

That reality presents a challenge for a franchise with championship expectations, though the coaching staff and talent remain capable of meeting those standards. Fox analyst Colin Cowherd continues to maintain his earlier stance that Kansas City’s era of sustained dominance is coming to an end.

“They’re gonna win another Super Bowl. Andy Reid and Mahomes may win another Super Bowl, but this going to the AFC Championship every year, going to the Super Bowl every year, that’s done. They’ll be good. They’ll be a playoff team. But you’re not gonna get four more trips to the Super Bowl in five years,” Cowherd said on The Herd.

Cowherd pointed to their potential standing if they lose to Denver, which would drop them to 5-5 and four games behind the Broncos. He noted that only one eventual Super Bowl winner has ever recovered from that position historically. His concerns extend beyond the current win-loss record. Patrick Mahomes now carries a significant salary cap figure, while Chris Jones and Travis Kelce are aging. Andy Reid is also in his sixties.

Cowherd emphasized the changing landscape of the AFC West as a critical factor in his assessment. With Jim Harbaugh and Sean Payton building the division rivals up, Cowherd does not believe Kansas City can maintain its previous level of control.

He predicts more seasons where the Chiefs enter the playoffs as a wild card rather than securing home-field advantage. Kansas City has won nine consecutive division titles by consistently finishing strong.

This marks the fourth time in five seasons they have reached Week 11 with multiple losses, and each previous instance led to public doubt about their championship chances. The Chiefs responded each time with extended winning streaks that carried them to the Super Bowl.
