The Pittsburgh Steelers are dealing with mounting offensive struggles following their Week 10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The unit appeared overmatched throughout the contest in both execution and coaching decisions.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers endured a difficult performance that reflected the broader issues limiting production. With their division lead now down to a single game, the Steelers need immediate improvement to maintain their position. Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith addressed the media during a press conference and discussed one young player who has shown gradual development.
“(Roman Wilson) is slowly but surely is starting to make more plays. It’s an ongoing process. He’s starting to show signs of his role increasing,” Smith said of Wilson.

Wide receiver Roman Wilson entered the 2025 season with considerable expectations from the organization and its supporters. His early production fell short of those projections.
Wilson recorded just one reception through the first four weeks despite opportunities to contribute. Playing time increased in subsequent contests, but he has exceeded two catches in a game only once. His Week 9 outing ended with a fumble on his lone touch late in the contest.
Both of Wilson’s touchdown receptions came during the final stages of decisive losses. Smith’s comments suggest the Steelers believe Wilson is progressing toward a larger offensive role, yet his on-field results have not supported that trajectory.
The team hoped Wilson would step into significant WR2 responsibilities during Calvin Austin III’s injury absence, but he failed to claim that position. Wilson may not assume a starting wide receiver role during the remainder of this season. The opportunity does not exist within the current offensive structure for 2025.
His path forward depends on how he finishes the year and what he demonstrates heading into 2026. A strong showing over the final stretch could position him for increased responsibilities next season.
