The LA Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks met for the first time in the 2025-26 NBA season on Saturday at the Fiserv Forum. Both teams were playing on the second night of a back-to-back following NBA Cup outings. They also played like that to start the contest.
While the physicality was high, neither team’s shots were falling. The Lakers and Bucks scored a combined 21 points on 8 of 19 shots, often settling for jumpers before the first timeout with 6:28 left in the first. 11 of those attempts were from 3-point range.
Luka Doncic jumped ahead against his superstar counterpart Giannis Antetokounmpo with six points, giving the Lakers a 13-8 lead. Antetokounmpo had three points and three rebounds until that point.

The game changed quickly coming out of the timeout, as Antetokounmpo rested while Doncic stayed on the floor. He went on a personal 10-0 run to extend LA’s lead to 23-10 into the second timeout with 1:48 left with impending free throws.
The Lakers led 30-18 after the first, holding the Bucks to their lowest first quarter total this season.
The Bucks had a better start in the second quarter, trimming the Lakers’ lead to eight (38-30), five minutes into the frame. Antetokounmpo led their charge with 12 quick points.
However, once he went out after a couple of possessions, the Lakers were back in control, going on a 14-2 run to extend the lead to 52-32 into the second timeout with 2:42 left in the quarter.
The Lakers allowed the Bucks to score only a couple more points in that frame, while stretching their lead to 31 points, with a 65-34 advantage heading into the locker room.
