Two-time World Heavyweight Champion officially announces that he’s returning on WWE RAW

WWE RAW is set to be an extravaganza affair tonight, with John Cena set to make his final appearance on the flagship show. The show will also feature the return of Gunther, who has officially announced on social media.

The Ring General was last seen in action at SummerSlam, where he lost the World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk. Gunther was busted open during the match, which was used as a kayfabe reason to write him off WWE programming, as he needed time off for nose surgery.

The Austrian star is one of the participants in the Last Time is Now tournament, which will determine John Cena’s opponent in his final match. Gunther will face Je’Von Evans in the first round. He took to Instagram to send a message ahead of his return to RAW:

“The Ring General is back on duty to raise the quality in WWE. I’ve had a bit of a break, fixed my nose and I’m now here in the beautiful Switzerland at the airport in Zurich, I’m about to head to New York City. There couldn’t be better timing to come back and participate in the tournament that will determine John Cena’s final opponent at the Madison Square Garden,”- he said

WWE veteran believes Gunther will dethrone John Cena in his final match

Gunther is one of the favorites to win the Last Time is Now tournament and face John Cena in his final match. WWE veteran Jim Cornette also believes that The Ring General will go all the way in the ongoing tournament and dethrone Cena in his last match to become the new Intercontinental Champion:

“We’ll see what happens, but I would think that the obvious thing is for Cena to then put Gunther over for the Intercontinental title on his last night on Saturday Night’s Main Event. That will actually be him doing a job that will do some good for somebody whereas the one to Brock didn’t accomplish anything long term. They’re not even talking about it,” Cornette said.

John Cena won the IC title last week on RAW when he defeated Dominik Mysterio in an impromptu match. The Cenation Leader also became a Grand Slam Champion with the win. However, he is expected to drop the title in one of his upcoming matches.

Gunther looks like the most obvious choice to dethrone the 17-time world champion. The Ring General had a phenomenal run as the Intercontinental Champion after his main roster debut and could once again elevate the title.
