Guenther Steiner lauds Lando Norris’ late season resurgence

Guenther Steiner poured in all his praise for Lando Norris as the McLaren driver underwent a massive U-turn in his title battle. Speaking about the British driver, Steiner stated that he was surprised by Norris’ form lately and the way he took over the lead of the championship.

Over the last few races, Norris delivered back-to-back stunning performances, which not only reduced his gap to teammate Oscar Piastri but also gave him a 24-point lead going into Las Vegas. With three races and a sprint left this season, the Briton is now the favorite to win the championship.

Since the 2025 Azerbaijan GP, where he finished in P7, Norris has had two podiums, two race wins, and a sprint win to his name in four race weekends. Speaking about his surge in form, here’s what the former Haas team principal said in the recent Red Flags podcast:

“Something I didn’t expect I would see, you know. Because I mean obviously he struggled in season, and he got his stuff back together, and you know, and if he can hold back together, I think he’s on the way to his world championship,” Steiner said.

“He didn’t make one mistake the whole weekend the last weekend, and you know hearing him talk all the noises, ‘I just cut them out and didn’t listen to them that this you know, is one of the things if he did, he did pretty well. You know there are lot of criticisms, mine included, I admit to that one but he has proven me wrong. Fair play to him. Hats off.”

In the recently concluded Brazil GP, Lando Norris had a perfect weekend. The McLaren star claimed P1 in FP1, SQ1, missed out on P1 in SQ2 by a whisker, took P1 again in SQ3, and then the sprint.

He was on top in Q1 again, followed by Q2 and Q3, and then went on to take the win on Sunday. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, however, had an underwhelming race weekend, as did Max Verstappen, another title contender.

“Just focus on yourself and the team. McLaren are doing an amazing job, giving me a great car. We’re pushing hard every single weekend and I’m pushing hard away from the track. So rewarding. It doesn’t come easy, that’s for sure. And to be honest, I don’t think we were the quickest out there on track today, but glad to take home the win.”

Currently, Lando Norris has 390 points in his tally after 21 races and five sprints. His teammate, Oscar Piastri is in P2 with 366 points, and is ahead of Max Verstappen, who is in P3 with 341 points.
